What Is Churapin (美ら冰)?

Churapin (美ら冰) is our original Taiwanese dessert, rooted in Taiwanese xuehua ice (雪花冰) and uniquely refined and developed in Okinawa.

We use no water at all — only freshly drawn milk as the base — so it has none of the crunchy ice crystals or brain-freezing chill of ordinary shaved ice.

The moment your spoon goes in, it feels light and fluffy. In your mouth it melts smoothly, and within that you can feel a distinctive, slightly chewy texture. That is its defining feature.

That is why Ryukyu Churayuki describes it as "a new texture that is neither ice cream nor shaved ice."

How to Say "美ら冰"

"美ら冰" is pronounced Churapin. In English, we write it as Churapin.

The name is Ryukyu Churayuki's original product name, combining "Chura" (美ら), a word that evokes Okinawa, with "冰" (ice).

Born in Taiwan, Raised in Okinawa.

The roots of Churapin lie in Taiwanese xuehua ice (雪花冰).

Ryukyu Churayuki began serving the Taiwanese dessert xuehua ice in Okinawa in 2009.

After that, we kept asking ourselves,
"Can we make it even fluffier?" "Can we add a chewy feel inside that fluffiness?"
We refined it again and again until it evolved into today's Churapin.

Because it has its roots in Taiwanese dessert culture and has been nurtured in Okinawa for many years, we introduce Churapin as an original Taiwanese dessert that is
"Born in Taiwan, Raised in Okinawa."

Churapin shares its roots with "Taiwanese shaved ice" and xuehua ice, but it is a product that Ryukyu Churayuki has developed on its own.

Refined in Okinawa Since 2009

Ryukyu Churayuki's journey began in August 2009 on Ishigaki Island, Okinawa.

In 2012, we moved to Naha.

In 2015, we became independent from our former franchise headquarters and began establishing our own original products.

In 2024, ahead of nationwide franchise expansion, we changed our shop name from "Yukihana no Sato (雪花の郷)" to "Ryukyu Churayuki (琉球美ら雪)" and our product name from "xuehua ice (雪花冰)" to "Churapin (美ら冰)."

In August 2026, we celebrated our 17th anniversary and are now in our 18th year.
